Specific Job Description
RMSL is a growth company with an outstanding job opportunity for a research project engineer. This position will report to the Head of Research and Development. The Mechanical Engineer will be an integral part of a small cross functional team working on exciting development projects with cutting-edge technology. In this role, the ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, sourcing, prototyping, integrating, testing, and optimizing a wide variety of mechanical and electromechanical solutions. This individual must demonstrate innovation, an understanding of the fundamentals of engineering, an ability to learn, out-of-the-box thinking and creativity.
Duties Include

Mechanical design of products and systems in Solidworks
-
Electrical design of simple electromechanical systems
-
Prototyping of designs ranging from simple to complex
-
Programming of Arduinos, PLC’s, microcontrollers etc.

Handling and testing of energetic materials, armaments, and weapon systems
-
Integrate energetic materials in to end articles such as ammunition and munitions.

Assistance with company compliance in restricted information security regulations
-
Project engineering tasks such as report writing, technical presentations (at customer and public meetings), and technical deliverables tracking

Occasional business development activities in your area of expertise; e.g., customer relations, opportunity identification, proposal writing

Assistance with company compliance in explosive storage and handling regulations
Required Skills

Ability to work hands-on building and assembling mechanical systems

Exercises creative thinking and innovation

Extensive knowledge of mechanical manufacturing and mechanical assembly / processes

Extensive experience with mechanical engineering drawings and bill of materials

Ability to analyze and manufacture complex assemblies

Familiarity with mechanisms manufacturing, test, and qualification. Knowledge of CNC and conventional machining and machine shop theory

In depth knowledge of 3D CAD design software packages such as SolidWorks (preferred), Creo (Pro-E), CATIA, Fusion 360 etc.

Rapid prototyping knowledge and experience

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Physical requirements:

Must be able to sit for extended periods of time; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.; must have the ability to see near and far and work with a computer monitor on a daily basis

Required to bend, sit, stand and lift to perform job effectively

Must be able to work overtime as required
Highly Beneficial Skills

Direct experience with robotics, mechatronics, and control systems

Direct experience designing and building additive manufacturing systems (3D printers)

Hands-on experience with energetic materials

Knowledge of basic-intermediate chemistry and/or chemical engineering

Experience with modeling FEA, Hydrocodes (ALE3d, CTH etc.)

Experience with chemical formulation

Experience in one or more of the following areas

Armament and munition development

Explosive Testing

Blasting

Minimum Qualifications

Must have a BS and/or MS in a related field of study such as Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field

Ability to obtain security clearance

Ability to obtain CO State Blaster’s Permit
