Specific Job Description:
RMSL is a growth company with an outstanding job opportunity for a Design Engineer. This position will report to the Research Area Technical Lead. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be an integral part of a small, cross-functional team working on exciting research and development projects. In this role, the ideal candidate will be responsible for modeling, designing, sourcing, prototyping, integrating, testing, and optimizing a wide variety of mechanical and electromechanical solutions. This individual must demonstrate innovation, an understanding of the fundamentals of engineering, an ability to learn, out-of-the-box thinking and creativity.
Duties Include:

Mechanical prototype designs of products and systems from simple to complex parts and assemblies in SolidWorks
-
Research, plan, analyze, design, and develop mechanical products and components for armament, weapon, and munition systems.

Independently develop design concepts, 3D models and support the development of detailed drawings for integrated mechanical systems and the manufacture of these parts. Conduct trade studies and develop component specifications and procedures, as required.

Work with energetic material process technology – bridge materials formulation/application, component level material consolidation and integration

Plan and execute design tasks with limited general direction and work effectively within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment.

Help assist in project engineering tasks such as report writing, technical presentations (at customer and public meetings), and technical deliverables tracking

Ensure technical outcomes are consistent with established engineering principles and practices and that customer and company technical, system, performance, and quality requirements are met.

Interface with RMSL customers, teammates, and partners in a professional manner

Maintain company compliance in restricted information security regulations

Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule

Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, core values, and culture of RMSL
Required Skills:
-
Extensive knowledge of 3D CAD design software packages such as SolidWorks (preferred), Creo (Pro-E), CATIA, Fusion 360 etc.

Understands and utilizes prototype design and manufacturing process, automation, and continuous integration
-
Knowledge of industry-standard mechanical design and engineering principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing, and production processes

Exercises creative thinking and innovation

Rapid prototyping knowledge and experience

Problem solver that can work independently or in a team environment on fast-paced projects

Experience with mechanical engineering drawings and bill of materials

Knowledge of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, and technical risk identification

Familiarity with mechanisms manufacturing, test, and qualification. Knowledge of CNC and conventional machining and machine shop theory

Ability to devise technical solutions with a high technical aptitude, and positively influences the successful completion of supported programs and projects

Researches and resolves problems efficiently, accurately, and in a timely manner
-
Clearly communicates issues and roadblocks up the chain of command to maintain sprint scope, efficiency, and productivity

Familiarity working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams

Highly proficient in Microsoft Office software applications

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Physical requirements:
-
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.; must have the ability to see near and far and work with a computer monitor daily

Required to bend, sit, stand, and lift to perform job effectively

Work and operate in an office, laboratory, and outdoor test range environment

Must be able to work overtime when necessary to meet mission critical goals and timelines
Highly Beneficial Skills:

Experience in the Aerospace or Defense Industry
-
Experience in one or more of the following focused design research areas:
-
Armaments, Warheads, or Munitions
-
Automated and Remote Systems for Continuous Energetic Material Processing
-
-
Fundamental design competence in explosive and pyrotechnic devices
-
Direct experience with robotics, mechatronics, and electromechanical control systems
-
Experience with finite element modeling and hydrocodes (ALE3d, CTH, LS-DYNA etc.)
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Must have a BS and/or MS in a technical field of study such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field

Ability to obtain security clearance
-
Ability to obtain CO State Blaster’s Permit
